Pink Floyd
Sep. 30th, 1987 07:00 pmOne of the most visually stunning shows I've seen. They had the trademark round Pink Floyd video screen, ringed with Vari-Lites. They had two big, uh... blocks, like sports arena scoreboards, that moved back and forth and up and down. They had spotlights and Vari-Lites on them.
The show needed to be spectacular to reach all of County Stadium (58,300 people), since the stage was in the bleachers. We were in the upper deck (way back), and I was still impressed. The sound was even good, except for the quadraphonic being out of sync - the back middle speakers were just to our left. During the final song, "Run Like Hell", two singers alternated singing "run" in the chorus, but one singer was in the front channel, and the other was in the back channel. Instead of "Run! Run! Run! Run!" it sounded like Runrun... runrun... runrun...
Interesting that after the long opening of Shine On, they played all of their new album (save "One Slip", which began the encore), though not in order. And they still had a long list of great songs to play.
I took Michele, who was afraid of heights. She had a little trouble going back down the steps from our seats after the show. I don't remember who went with Bill. The show started pretty late, due to all the people still coming in at 7:00. Do stadium shows always start late?
